Schools’ International Curriculum

Al-Iqbal International School offers an enriched American curriculum with an International perspective for students in preschool through grade 12. The curriculum is based on US national standards in all.

     The core program emphasizes reading and the language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Elementary students receive instruction in health, physical education, computer technology, art, and Arabic culture. French instruction begins in KG. Middle and High school students continue their studies in the core areas. Instructional objectives are clearly defined in all subject areas, but academic expectations are flexible enough to both support and challenge each individual learner. Homework is an important part of the educational process as a means of reinforcing and reviewing the daily classroom lessons. Instruction in all areas encourages students to grow as creative persons, critical thinkers and effective communicators. Technology, with Internet access in the school and libraries, is integrated throughout our program.


       Academically, AIS prepares students to meet the challenge of a university education. Middle and High School students are well prepared for the SAT tests throughout their curriculum.


     Beyond academics AIS strives to instill in all students a positive attitude toward lifelong learning, an appreciation for cultural diversity, and the skills necessary to be successful in their future endeavors.

KG Section English
Our children are provided with many opportunities to see how reading and writing are useful, before they are instructed in letters, colors, shapes, numbers, names, sounds and word recognition. This is done through different experiences, singing nursery rhymes, reading stories, listening to fairy tales, taking field trips. This course requires a student to attend 11 English periods per week.
Our students use math as a part of classroom activities. Students learn to count sets of objects, add, subtract, read and write the numbers. This course requires a student to attend 10 Mathematics periods per week.
Our children describe simple features of objects, living and non living things, students recognize and name parts of the body and plants. They also observe and describe a range of animals and plants in terms of features such as colors, size and shape. This course requires a student to attend 1 science period per week.
Students learn to communicate in their native language, which further develops their skills and understanding of it, the course has a combination of writing, oral, reading, speaking and listening skills. This course requires a student to attend five Arabic periods per week.
Studies learn that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah, alone and that we bear witness that Mohammed ((صلى الله عليه وسلم is his servant and messenger. The present curriculum also covers Hadith and Memorization of Amma Part. The material also stresses the authentic, Islamic behavior of a good Muslim.
Our children are instructed orally to know letters, numbers, shapes and colors. They can also talk about different concepts: school, family, fruits and vegetables.
Grades 1-6 English Reading, Writing, Grammar and Spelling
Our teachers build readers through motivating and engaging literature, scientifically research-based instruction, and a wealth of reliable teaching tools. The program takes the guesswork out of differentiating instruction with a strong emphasis on ongoing progress-monitoring and an explicit plan to help with managing small groups of students. In addition skill instruction is prioritized at each grade level, so teachers can be assured they will focus on the right skill, at the right time, and for every student.
The curriculum focuses on developing students’ conceptual understanding and skills through step-by-step instruction. The focus is on key ideas in mathematics, rich problem-solving lessons that build the reading and writing skills necessary for powerful problem solving, and differentiated instructional options to meet the needs of varied learners. Our program provides inquiry-rich content with activities; cross-curricular connections that link reading and science skills; hundreds of Leveled Readers for differentiated instruction; and time-saving strategies—from lesson preparation to 30-second lab setup—that create extra time in your day.
Grades 7-12 English Grammar and Writing
Students are walked through writing instructions in a step-by-step process in order to strengthen their ability to write expressively. They are also given opportunities to constantly practice their grammar through usage and mechanic-comprehensive instruction. Academic and work place skills are also implemented within the classroom to develop the students’ test-taking skills, as well as real-world workplace competencies.
Combining fresh, contemporary selections with classic favorites, this language arts program delivers explicit instruction within a student-friendly design to create the new standard for today’s literature classroom.
The mathematical program is filled with the research-based approach students need. Daily, integrated intervention and powerful test prep help all students master the standards and prepare for high-stakes assessments.
Science Chemistry
Our curriculum strives to meet the needs of students with a range of abilities, diversities, and learning styles by providing real-world connections to chemical concepts and processes. Students are introduced to the conceptual nature of chemistry before they encounter the more rigorous mathematical models and concepts. The Students are provided frequent opportunities to practice and reinforce key concepts with tutorials that bring chemistry to them through: Animations, Simulations, Assessment, and Problem-solving tutorials.
